I was watching a video segment where Guillermo del Toro was explaining his views on myth. One of the things he touched upon was the fact that myths in movies nowadays are using rationality. And he’s right. Vampires, werewolves and even zombies have to have some sort of scientific explanation. For example, the overly used concept of viruses. To be honest, I miss the days of truth myth; where you could read or watch something mythical but never feel the need to ask why certain things worked. Can you imagine how terrible the Lord of the Rings films would be if they were dissected and explained to the point of killing the magic?
